In season 2012, Matthew played senior footy for Myrtleford in the Ovens and Murray league before being invited back to Murray for the last four games to play as a 19 year-old based on his good form at senior level.
In the four games for the Bushranges he kicked nine goals, including two bags of four. He averaged three contested marks, including seven in one game against the Dandenong Stingrays.
He averaged eight marks a game in total and was averaging 13 touches a game. He had a high of 18 disposals in a Dandenong Stingrays game.
He loves to work his opponent over with constant movement and use his reach in marking situations. He loves to wheel and back in his athleticism.
He tested outstandingly well across the board at the state combine: 3.02 20m, 14.5 beep and an 82cm vertical jump.
